My casino career started in the local casino learning Blackjack. By the time I was experienced in Blackjack, I had learnt my next game, Baccarat and within three years of starting at the casino, I was dealing Roulette and Craps.
World Travel
There were plenty of overseas work opportunities with these four games, so I packed my bags and headed for Miami to join the cruise ships sailing around the Caribbean. I’ll admit I got a little seasick, but the excitement of being somewhere new each day was enough to make me forget my temporary lack of ‘sea legs’. Ship life was incredible and unlike anything I have known since.
After a couple of years and many countries and destinations, I left the cruise ship lifestyle to resume life on land again, this time in the hustle and bustle of London. After a quick table test upon arriving in London, I was offered a job while waiting for a casino licence to begin dealing. During this period, I decided to delay my casino job to explore other parts of England and continental Europe, returning to London twelve months later. The great thing about casinos is the plentiful work opportunities. When I returned, I applied for a Central Camera Room position in the largest gaming company in Europe. My gaming background and experience allowed me to thrive in this setting that consisted of personnel with security backgrounds.
Ongoing Work In This Industry
I returned to Australia but maintained my link with casinos in a teaching capacity that allowed me to retain a connection with the industry.
It’s been an amazing ride so far, and I look forward to what comes next.
